2022 Accomplishments

KFAM reopened our doors physically for in person services 

KFAM expanded housing programs to help gender based violence victims with temporary shelter to get away from their abuser 

Brought back Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) to educate parents on skills and tips to raise healthy children

Became an Adoption Agency in November 2022, to provide all services around adoption for AAPI parents 

Previous Accomplishments

2021

  • Placed 36 AAPI Foster children in AAPI Culturally Sensitive homes, totaling 127 placements in 5 years 

  • Served 362 clients with Mental Health Services, the most we have served in a year since 1983; provided 102 clients with Pro bono services 

  • Expanded services to School Violence Prevention and Educating around Bullying and Cyberbullying which rose exponentially during the Pandemic 

  • Small Business Training added to help immigrant families start their own businesses

  • Added services on Child Abuse Prevention and Intervention to prevent children from entering the system 

2020

  • Expanded AFFI services to include prevention and aftercare services for foster children, birth parents and foster families. 

  • KFAM changed all of our programs and services to virtual April 2020 

  • KFAM held hands with Natural History Museum to provide educational camps throughout the year for students, 62 attended.

  • KFAM created YouTube videos around PTSD, Trauma and Coping which was viewed by 5,200 people 

  • Expanded Mental Health services to Northern California, so clients can receive therapy services in Korean language

  • KFAM quickly changed gears for Emergency Covid Response to the Community 

    • Supported 50 single mothers with maternity essential items

    • Provided 338 PPE Boxes filled with masks, sanitizers, cleaning supplies and toiletry 

    • Handed out 1,330 Culturally Competent AAPI Food Boxes filled with produce and groceries 

    • Provided a total of $370,000 financial support for Pandemic relief; Provided $74,000 in Rental Assistance and Relocation fees due to racism and $210,000 in Financial support in providing basic necessities 

    • Educated 20,000 Community members around COVID-19 Prevention in Korean, Chinese, Tagalog, and Vietnamese 

2019

  • Provided training to over 108 Korean Faith Leaders through Project Sori, a project to better inform and educate about Sexual Assault.

  • 1,182 Koreans educated on mental health, including depression, suicide, substance abuse, and stress management. 298 Korean adults and children received Clinical Counseling.

  • Nourished 5000 children by distributing healthy, API-friendly meals to over 210 child care providers.

  • Expanded DV Housing First, a homeless prevention and long-term empowerment project to help domestic violence survivors secure permanent housing. Strengthened domestic violence workforce development and entrepreneurship program, including launch of candle-making business for survivors.

  • Asian American Foster Family Initiative became CARF Certified for 3 years.46 Foster Children placed under AFFI (since 2014) 

  • Celebrated KFAM's 36th Anniversary, "KFAM Royale," on October 4, 2019 with more than 300 guests.

2018

Launched Project Sori, a Sexual Assault project, using the #MeToo Movement. Kicked off DV Housing First, a homeless prevention and long-term empowerment project to help domestic violence survivors secure permanent housing. Strengthened domestic violence workforce development and entrepreneurship program, including launch of candle-making business for survivors. Expanded the Asian American Foster Family Initiative into the Korean, Chinese and Filipino communities in Los Angeles and Orange Counties.

2017

Graduated 62 Faith Leaders to become better first responders in the KA Community.Awarded over $100,000 in educational scholarships through Hanmi Bank's Foundation. Filled 303 backpacks with age-appropriate supplies to be delivered to AFFI Foster children and provided 681 individuals training on how to become a resource (foster) parent.

2016

Graduated the first 40-hour DV state certification training class specifically for Korean clergy in Southern California. We had a class for 8 Korean seminary students and another class for 18 clergy.Also, KFAM becomes the first and only licensed Foster Family Agency (FFA) in the US, specializing in the needs of API foster children and recruiting culturally responsive foster families.

2014

KFAM conducted the first and only foster parent training course (36-hour, 6-week class called PS-MAPP) conducted in Korean in US history. KFAM had the first all-Korean graduating class of 16 Korean American parents (9 families) who became licensed foster parents.KFAM conducted the first backpack drive (350 backpacks) and holiday gift drive (150 presents) targeted towards Asian Pacific Islander foster kids in LA County.

2012,2014,2016

KFAM held its first and only Korean Mental Health Screening Day in LA County, a community event for Korean Americans to learn more about mental health, receive screening, and meet with Korean speaking mental health clinicians.

2013

KFAM formed Life Beyond, the only Korean-language DV survivor support group in LA County.

2011

KFAM launched the first and only child supervised visitation program in Southern California with Korean speaking monitors.

1989

KFAM launched the first 52-week domestic violence batterers’ treatment program offered to Korean Americans in LA County.

1983

KFAM becomes the first and only Korean specific agency in LA County dedicated to serving Korean Domestic Violence victims.
